Useful Sentence Patterns

Use these three natural patterns when answering speaking questions about borrowing or sharing.

Pattern 1

"A friend of mine ..."

"A friend of mine lent me this funny comic book yesterday."
Why this works: It is a friendly way to talk about one of your friends.
Pattern 2

"Mine is ..."

"Can I borrow your jacket? Mine is at home, and I promise to bring it back."
Why this works: "Mine" replaces "my jacket", so you don't repeat the same noun twice.
Pattern 3

"I always ask to borrow ..."

"I always ask to borrow my brother's charger when my battery is low."
Why this works: The word "when" tells why you borrow things.
