Rules of the Game
T For the Teacher
- Put students into teams of 4 and give each team one town map.
- Tell players: "Start at the star on START, facing north."
- Player 1 reads Card 1 out loud. The team traces the path together on the map.
- The first team to call out the correct building wins the round point.
- Card passes to Player 2 for the next round (relay style).
- Keep score on the board and check answers using the Teacher Key at the bottom.
S For the Students
- Your team's goal is to find the secret building before other teams.
- Put your finger on START facing North at the traffic lights (C3).
- One player reads the card clearly: no pointing with fingers yet!

⚠️ Mistakes to listen for:
- Saying "Turn to left" or "Turn to right" instead of "Turn left / Turn right".
- Forgetting the verb in answers: saying just "Library" instead of "It is the library."
- Confusing opposite (facing across road) and behind (in the row behind).
- Saying "cross the bridge" when they are still on South Road.
Variations
1. Easier (Visual Support)
Let students move a physical coin or counter square by square on the map while listening to the reader.
2. Medium (Memory)
The reader reads the card once, hides it, and teammates must remember the directions without looking.
3. Harder (Silent Tracing)
No pointing or talking while tracing; teammates write their answer on a mini-whiteboard and reveal together.
4. For Fast Finishers
Student pairs write 2 new direction cards using corner, traffic lights, and crossroads, then test another team.
Closing Questions
1. Which direction words were the easiest to follow, and which were tricky?
2. Can you name two buildings that are opposite each other in our town?
3. How do you give directions to someone who is at the traffic lights?
