Emergency Preparedness Report

MODEL ANSWER

Benchmark Task 1 Response

Word Count: 130 words Target: 120–140 words

The table compares the number of households with a kit across four towns in 2015 and 2025.

Overall, the number of households with a kit increased in three of the four towns, with Seaview experiencing the most substantial surge, while Hillcrest was the only town where the figure fell.

In 2015, Hillcrest led with 45% of homes with a kit, followed by Riverton at 30%. However, while Hillcrest dipped by 4 percentage points to 41% a decade later, Riverton rose steadily to 38%.

The most striking growth occurred in the remaining two communities. Northfield's figure tripled from 12% to 36%, representing an increase of 24 percentage points. Meanwhile, preparedness in Seaview grew more than sixfold, jumping from a low of 8% to 52%, and became the highest in 2025.

DECONSTRUCTION

Useful phrases

Notes
Phrase 1

"the number of households with a kit"

Why this works: Say what the table is about in your own words.
Phrase 2

"was the only town where the figure fell"

Why this works: Shows the one town that went the other way.
Phrase 3

"dipped by 4 percentage points"

Why this works: Keeps the figures true. A fall from 45% to 41% is a gap of 4 percentage points. Stating "fell by 4%" would be mathematically incorrect.
Phrase 4

"rose steadily to"

Why this works: Shows the change was gradual (use only if the figures support it).
Phrase 5

"tripled from 12% to 36%"

Why this works: Keeps the figures true. 12 x 3 = 36.
Phrase 6

"grew more than sixfold"

Why this works: Keeps the figures true. Since 8% multiplied by 6 equals 48%, reaching 52% exceeds six times.
Phrase 7

"and became the highest in 2025"

Why this works: Shows how the ranking changed: Seaview was last in 2015 and first in 2025.
