Writing About Inventions: Active vs. Passive Voice
When describing inventions, we usually care more about the creation than who built it. Use the Past Passive for historical inventions and the Present Passive for ongoing manufacturing.
Past Passive (was/were + V3):
"The light bulb was developed in the late 19th century."
Present Passive (is/are + V3):
"Millions of handheld devices are manufactured every year."
Thomas Edison is famous for the ___ of the electric light bulb.

Everyday Tools vs. Modern Machines
In this essay I will discuss whether basic everyday tools are more practical than complicated modern machines. Today, many people rely on complex electronic devices like smartphones and computers. However, in my view, simple inventions such as scissors, pens, and paper remain equally valuable or even more useful in daily life.
One reason is that simple items are completely reliable and do not need electricity. For example, a pencil does not lose battery power during an important meeting, and a traditional paper calendar never crashes. Furthermore, ordinary hand tools are manufactured from durable raw materials, so they work in any weather conditions. When modern electronics break down or run out of power, we immediately turn back to these basic objects to finish our work.
Another reason is that everyday tools allow people to complete essential tasks quickly without special training. Anyone can cut cloth with scissors or drink water from a glass bottle. In contrast, complicated electronic devices are designed with complex systems that take hours to understand, and valuable time is often wasted on technical errors. Simple objects solve direct physical problems faster and cost very little money to replace.
In conclusion, while advanced machines help society in many ways, basic objects are still very important. They work anytime without energy, and they help us survive every single day.
Why is this a good essay?
