Rewrite the sentence:

____ a. Zoos teach visitors about the importance of protecting wild animals. ____ b. Most people visit wildlife parks only to entertain their children. ____ c. Conservation projects are run exclusively by public schools and colleges.

💡 Why this works: "Teach visitors" successfully replaces "educate the public", maintaining the original idea in clear B1 vocabulary.

Original sentence:

"Keeping large predators in small cages can harm their psychological well-being."

Rewrite the sentence:

____ a. Large animals should be fed more food when they live in confined enclosures. ____ b. Confining big hunters to tight spaces often damages their mental health. ____ c. Predators prefer small enclosures because they feel protected from humans.

💡 Why this works: "Confining big hunters to tight spaces" accurately paraphrases "keeping large predators in small cages".

Rewrite the sentence:

____ a. Raising animals in controlled facilities can save rare creatures from extinction. ____ b. Endangered creatures always survive better when left completely alone in nature. ____ c. Most breeding programs fail because animals refuse to reproduce in front of crowds.

💡 Why this works: "Save rare creatures from extinction" is a natural equivalent of "prevent endangered species from dying out".

E

Grammar: Agreeing & Disagreeing Politely

In IELTS essays, balanced writers acknowledge other perspectives politely using patterns such as: "In my opinion...", "I'm not sure that...", "That's true, but...", and "I see your point, but...".

Direct statement (too blunt for an academic essay):

"You are wrong. Zoos do not care only about making profit."

Rewrite the sentence politely:

____ a. In my opinion, nobody should believe that money is involved at all. ____ b. I see your point, but many modern facilities reinvest their revenue into conservation research. ____ c. That is completely false because tickets are sold for the public good.

💡 Why this works: "I see your point, but..." validates the opponent's view before smoothly presenting your counter-evidence.

Simple agreement (needs more balance):

"Zoos entertain families, so they are good."

Rewrite the sentence with a balanced concession:

____ a. That's true, but entertainment should never come at the expense of an animal's welfare. ____ b. In my opinion, families should stay home and watch television instead. ____ c. I'm not sure that tickets are affordable enough for low-income families.

💡 Why this works: "That's true, but..." allows you to agree with the benefit while addressing the negative side.

21. Choose the polite phrase that best introduces thoughtful doubt into this sentence:

"________ keeping wide-ranging mammals in artificial enclosures is truly ethical."
____ a. That's true, but ____ b. In addition to ____ c. I'm not sure that ____ d. For instance

💡 Why this works: "I'm not sure that..." softens the disagreement, creating a polite and measured academic tone.

Module 3: Model Essay

Read this sample essay to see how a student uses the unit words and polite opinion patterns to answer the question.

Model Answer

Zoos and Animals in Captivity

Length: 218 words Level: Strong B1

The essay below is shown in full. Study each bold sentence and the teacher note underneath it to understand how the writer shares opinions and disagrees politely.

Paragraph 1: Introduction

In this essay I will discuss both sides of keeping animals in zoos and give my own opinion. Today, many families visit safari parks or a local aquarium to see exotic creatures. While some people think these centers are very helpful, others feel that wild animals belong only in nature and should never live in captivity.

Paragraph 2: First View

Some people believe that zoos protect wildlife and teach visitors useful lessons. For instance, safe programs help rare animals breed to protect their overall population. Later on, staff can release healthy animals back into wild habitats. In addition, an experienced keeper takes care of sick animals, and interactive exhibits educate children about every bird and reptile.

Paragraph 3: Second View & Polite Disagreement

However, others argue that keeping animals in an enclosure is cruel. In the wild, large beasts need to roam freely across broad landscapes.

"I see your point, but modern facilities give animals medical care and nutritious food."

💡 Pattern: "I see your point, but..." — This shows how to accept an idea politely before giving a different reason.

"That's true, but small artificial spaces can still make active animals bored and stressed."

💡 Pattern: "That's true, but..." — This shows how to agree with a fact first and then disagree politely.

"Therefore, I'm not sure that keeping big hunters behind glass is fair."

💡 Pattern: "I'm not sure that..." — This shows how to express doubt politely instead of saying something is completely wrong.

Paragraph 4: Conclusion & Personal Opinion

In conclusion, zoos provide useful education and help threatened species survive in difficult times.

"In my opinion, we should only support animal parks that provide large natural habitats and truly protect animal welfare."

💡 Pattern: "In my opinion..." — This shows how to state your own view clearly and directly.

In this way, people can learn while animals stay safe.

Vocabulary Check

The model uses all 10 unit words naturally: aquarium, breed, population, release, keeper, educate, reptile, enclosure, cruel, roam.

Polite Tone Check
