Model Report (132 Words)

Target Length: 120–140 words Model answer

The two maps illustrate how a small family restaurant changed over ten years between 2015 and 2025.

Overall, the restaurant made its kitchen bigger and added new places for customers, while the central dining area remained largely unchanged.

Looking first at the northern section, the kitchen was extended eastward to take over the space previously used as a storeroom. In contrast, the toilets in the northeast corner stayed completely untouched. In the middle row, the original service counter was converted into a bar, while the neighboring tables were kept.

Turning to the southern side, the entrance remained in the southwest corner. However, the dining tables beside the door were replaced by a waiting area. Finally, the former garden in the southeast corner was turned into a terrace with tables, offering outdoor seating.

Layout: 4 paragraphs (Introduction • Overview • North & Middle • South) Word count: 132 words

★ Why This Works: 7 Useful Phrases

Here is what each highlighted expression does and how you can use it in your own map reports.

1

Why this works:

It tells the reader that almost everything stayed the same, without you having to name every single dining table.

Example: "The old library remained largely unchanged after the holiday."
2

Looking first at the northern section

Why this works:

3

extended eastward to take over

Example: "The car park was extended northward to take over the empty field."
4
