How Blue Jeans Began
In 1873, a tailor named Jacob Davis and a cloth seller named Levi Strauss got a patent for work trousers with copper rivets. The rivets were small metal pieces on the pockets. Ordinary work trousers often tore at the pockets, so they were not strong enough. The first customers were workers, for example miners and railway workers. The first trousers were made of strong brown cotton or blue denim. Later, most workers chose blue denim, and the trousers became known as blue jeans. Today, people all over the world wear jeans, and they are part of fashion.
