FacilitatorSet a 9-minute timer for individual work, then run a 3-minute peer check on the rewrite items. Check the answers on screen and review why the verb stays in the present tense after 'no matter'.

🌿 The Four Patterns
Four natural ways to say that something is true in spite of something else.
Much as + subject + verb
Means although and often goes with feelings such as like, admire, want, or regret.
"Much as visitors love the lake, they should not leave litter on its shores."
Notice: Conveys intense emotional attachment while firmly setting ecological boundaries.
However + adjective/adverb + S + V
The adjective or adverb must come straight after however, not after the verb.
"However careful the rangers are, some young birds will not survive the winter."
Key check: Never say "However the rangers are careful..."
Whatever / whoever / wherever + clause
States that the choice does not change the result. The clause can be compressed into a short phrase (e.g., whatever the cost).
"Whatever the weather, the volunteers count the birds every Sunday."
Key check: "Whatever the weather is" can simply be shortened to "Whatever the weather".
No matter how / what / where + S + V
Means the exact same as however / whatever / wherever. When talking about the future, the verb after them is present simple, never will.
"No matter where the new woodland is planted, local people should be asked first."
⚠️ Avoid: "No matter where the new woodland will be planted..."
