Ambitions of Fame: Advantages vs. Disadvantages (Click to reveal)

273 words
A celebrity interacting with fans at a public event, showing fame and media attention, high quality, realistic style, no

Nowadays, a large number of youths are eager to build an online presence and become famous. In this essay I will discuss both the positive side and the negative side of this ambition, although in my view the drawbacks are far more significant.

💡 Why this works: Uses 'a large number of' with a plural noun ('youths') and sets up a clear position with the required starter.

One advantage is that fame can open doors to money. When individuals become a recognized teenage idol or public figure, they get a lot of publicity. For instance, popular creators can partner with well-known brands through paid celebrity endorsement contracts. Another example is when gaming streamers get sponsored by tech companies, which gives them a steady income. In addition, establishing a reputable image enables these young creators to start personal businesses and make their own money. They can sell their own merchandise, like clothing or accessories, directly to their fans.

💡 Why this works: Uses 'celebrity endorsement', 'a lot of publicity' and 'teenage idol', with 'For instance' and 'In addition'.

However, one disadvantage is the intense psychological pressure that comes with public life. Many inexperienced creators become completely obsessed with viewer statistics and comments. As a result, they must handle a great deal of online criticism whenever critics spread rumours or share negative gossip. For example, a single mistake in a video can lead to thousands of angry messages from strangers. Furthermore, the glamorous lifestyle portrayed on social networks rarely reflects daily reality, and trying to keep a perfect reputation makes them anxious. They often feel like they can never truly relax or be themselves off-camera.

💡 Why this works: Uses 'a great deal of' before 'criticism', which you cannot count.

In conclusion, although gaining fame creates clear rewards and career openings, the number of young people who face severe mental distress from losing their privacy is alarmingly high. Therefore, the disadvantages clearly outweigh the advantages.

💡 Why this works: Uses 'the number of' with 'is' and answers the question.
