Answer Key
Card Count / Data Target Quantifier Model Sentence
Card 1 33 / 40 the majority of "The majority of students follow a celebrity online."
Card 2 2 / 40 hardly any "Hardly any students have ever met a famous person."
Card 3 12 / 40 a number of "A number of students read celebrity gossip."
Card 4 17 / 40 a large number of "A large number of students would like to be famous."
Card 5 9 / 40 a number of "A number of students have bought an item endorsed by a celebrity."
Card 6 30 hrs / week a great deal of "The fan spends a great deal of time watching videos of the singer."

🌟 Model Bonus Sentence (The number of...):

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Listen For

  • Double negative: Watch out for "Hardly any students don't have..." (Incorrect). It must be positive: "Hardly any students have..."
  • Subject-verb agreement: Distinguish between "A number of students are..." (plural) vs. "The number of students is..." (singular).
  • Countable vs. Uncountable: Ensure "a great deal of" is never applied to countable nouns (e.g. "a great deal of students" ❌). It qualifies uncountable time/money.

🔷 8. Classroom Variations

Extra Options
Level 1: Easy

Pre-selected Quantifiers

Provide the quantifier upfront on each card so support groups focus exclusively on sentence structure and vocabulary.

Level 2: Medium

Join two cards

Teams must combine two survey cards into one complex contrast sentence using linking connectors 'whereas' or 'while'.

Level 3: Hard

Creative Celebrity Scenario

Teams replace the original survey question with their own celebrity rumour or endorsement survey while preserving the exact numbers.

⚡ Fast Finisher

PR Manager Interview

Write an imaginary press statement from a celebrity's manager addressing the extreme fan obsession seen in Card 6.
