Model Note
A welcoming note written to a new neighbour
Welcome to Oak Lane! We are very glad to meet you. If you need anything, please ring our doorbell or ask anybody in flat 2. We can lend you tools or household items. You can find a friendly grocery shop somewhere near the bus stop down the street. Everybody here puts the green bins out on Monday morning, and nobody makes loud noise at night. Please come over for a cup of tea this weekend!
Why this works
Simple reasons why these phrases make your note friendly and clear.
"Welcome to Oak Lane!"
This gives a warm, polite hello right at the start. It makes the new neighbour feel happy and safe.
"If you need anything,"
This shows you are ready to help. Using "anything" invites the person to ask for big or small things.
"somewhere near the bus stop"
"Somewhere" is useful when you want to show where a place is without giving very long directions.
"Everybody here puts"
This tells your neighbour about a shared habit in the street. Remember that "everybody" takes a singular verb ("puts").
"nobody makes loud noise"
"Nobody" tells the neighbour what not to expect. It lets them know that the street is quiet and peaceful at night.
"Please come over"
"Please come over" is a kind and easy way to invite someone into your home for a quick visit.
Great job!
