Model Message to a Friend

80 words

Hi Sam,

Yesterday I took my camera to the quiet city park. I photographed tall green trees and an old wooden bridge near the river. I didn't walk up the hill because the path was very wet. We didn't have our heavy tripod, so I held the camera carefully in my hands. Did you have a good weekend too? My favourite picture is the sunny portrait of my laughing sister. Next time I will charge my camera battery before leaving.

💡

Useful Phrases and Why They Work

Look at how each bold phrase helps the message sound natural and complete:

Phrase 1

"Yesterday I took my camera to ..."

Why this works: It tells your friend when you went and where you went right at the start of your message.

Phrase 2

"I photographed tall green trees and ..."

Why this works: It lists two things you took pictures of and adds simple words like "tall" and "green" to help your friend picture them.

Phrase 3

"I didn't walk up the hill because ..."

Why this works: It uses "didn't" with a simple action word ("walk") and explains your reason clearly with "because".

Phrase 4

"We didn't have our heavy tripod, so ..."

Why this works: It joins what you did not have with what you did next by using the little connecting word "so".

Phrase 5

"My favourite picture is the sunny portrait of ..."

Why this works: It gives your opinion clearly and uses the photography word "portrait" that you learned in Module 1.
