💡

Useful phrases and why they work

Here are 5 useful phrases from the model text. Read each short note to help your writing.

Phrase 1

listen to pop music

Always put the word "to" after "listen". Do not say "listen music".

Example: I listen to rock music on my phone.

Phrase 2

favourite singer

"Favourite" means the one you like best of all.

Example: Taylor Swift is my favourite singer.

Phrase 3

plays the guitar

Put the word "the" before the name of an instrument when you play it.

Example: She plays the piano very well.

Phrase 4

does not like

Use "does not like" for one person like dad, mum, he, or she.

Example: My mum does not like jazz.

Phrase 5

turn down the volume

This means make the sound quiet so it does not hurt your ears.

Example: Please turn down the volume of the radio.
