Sample Message to a Friend
Hi Sam,
This week is very busy. On Monday I am going to the dentist at ten in the morning. On Wednesday I am not working at the office, but I am meeting my sister for lunch in town. Are you available on Friday afternoon? I have a haircut at two o'clock, but I am free after four. Can we arrange a time to meet for coffee? Please check your calendar and let me know soon!
Best,
Alex
Why This Works
Look at how each highlighted phrase helps your message stay clear and friendly:
"This week is very busy."
Why it works: This is a clear opening sentence. It tells your friend right away why you have only a little free time.
"On Monday I am going to the dentist..."
Why it works: Use I am + verb-ing to explain a fixed plan. For example: "I am not free on Friday because I am seeing the dentist at three o'clock."
"...I am meeting my sister..."
Why it works: This names the person you have plans with so your friend understands who you are seeing.
"Are you available on Friday afternoon?"
Why it works: Using "available" is a polite, natural way to ask if your friend has free time.
"Can we arrange a time to meet...?"
Why it works: "Can we arrange..." is a friendly question that invites your friend to agree on a time that works for both of you.
