Moving Homes: What the 2021 Census Tells Us

In the 2021 census on 21 March 2021, about 5.9 million people in England and Wales had a different address from one year before. That was 10.1% of the population. In 2011, around 6.1 million people, or 11.1%, moved home. This means fewer people moved in 2021. The government office says the pandemic is likely to have made some people stay where they were. Moving also depended on your living situation. About 21.5% of people in private rented homes moved, but only 6.2% of people who own their homes moved. Also, 25.6% of full-time students had moved.
