Visiting Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is an amusement park in Copenhagen, in Denmark. It opened on 15 August 1843. Its founder, Georg Carstensen, got royal permission from the king to open it. He built it after he saw amusement parks in other countries.

In 1874, the park built its Pantomime Theatre, and it is the oldest building in the park today. The Japanese Pagoda, a tower from 1900, has 2,800 coloured glass lamps that light it up at night. In 1914, the park opened a roller coaster that is now called the Tivoli Roller Coaster. Tivoli says it is one of the oldest wooden roller coasters that still work in the world.
