Welcome to London! This short article is for visitors. If you visit London, here are some things to know about its metro.

The London Underground opened in 1863. It is the oldest metro in the world. The Paris metro opened in 1900, so London's metro is older than Paris's.

People often call the London Underground "the Tube". So if someone says "the Tube", they mean the London Underground.

At the platforms, an announcement says "Mind the gap". This announcement warns passengers about the space between the train and the platform.

Passengers pay their fare with an Oyster card or with a contactless bank card. The fare is the money you pay for your trip.

⚠️ CAUTION: MIND THE GAP BETWEEN THE TRAIN AND THE PLATFORM ⚠️
