Grammar Rules: How to Guess
Use may, might, or could with a plain verb to guess when you are not sure. Never add -s and never put to after them.
📌 Example 1: My sister may be at the park.
📌 Example 2: The magician might hide a coin in his magic sleeve.
May be (two words) is a verb inside the sentence. Maybe (one word) means perhaps and usually starts the sentence.
It may be a secret trick.
Maybe the box is empty.
Use must when you are almost sure something is TRUE. Use can't when you are almost sure it is NOT true. Use might not when it is only possible that it is NOT true.
📌 Almost sure TRUE: Tom must be hungry after the long game.
📌 Almost sure NOT TRUE: He can't be at home because all stage lights are off.
📌 Only possible NOT: She might not believe the magic trick.
To ask about a possibility, put could before the subject. Answer with "Yes, it could" or "Yes, it might".
📌 Question: Could the prize be in this bag?
📌 Question: Could the quiz be easy for us?
